Call for Art FAQs

  • Entry fees for exhibitions include up to two artwork submissions. In some cases, artists can pay a small additional fee to submit a third artwork for jurying. If a show is hosted by an outside organization, there may be different rules for their submission fees. In that case, it will be clearly stated on that application.

  • ArtCall.org is a database designed for online artwork submission. It is utilized by a large number of galleries and art centers nationwide. To submit to NSCA exhibitions, you must create an account on ArtCall.org. With this account, you will be able to see the status of your artwork after jurying and receive notifications from exhibition committee members. Plus, you have the opportunity to use your profile to submit to other exhibitions listed via the platform; view open calls here.

  • Juried means that there is a group or individual who is hired to select artworks that go into a show. Therefore, not all submitted artworks will be accepted into an exhibition. Having a work juried out of an exhibition is rarely a judgement of the quality of the work, rather is a statement on what story the juror or wants to tell through the exhibition.

  • Nope! In some cases, members receive discounted entry fees. If you would like to become a member, click here to learn more.

  • We do not offer refunds for submission fees if an artwork is not accepted into an exhibition. All entry fees go fund the cost of the exhibition, related programming, and facility maintenance.

  • There is no perfect answer to this, however, many artists chose to follow a simple formula to decide pricing. Decide on an hourly rate ($25-$40/hour is standard) and multiply that by the number of hours you worked on the artwork. Then add the cost of any associated materials and any commission taken by the exhibition space (note that the NSCA takes 35% on all sold artworks).

For example, if you spend 4 hours painting and the canvas/paint/brushes cost $45 you would calculate the price as follows: (4 hours x $25/hour) + $45 = $145 then add 35% ($50.75). The artwork would be priced at $195.75 (or an even $200 is fine).

  • A: Yes, the NSCA has a limited number of scholarships available for each exhibition. If cost is a barrier in submitting for you, email us at info@northsuburbanarts.org.
